RPF File Editing Guide

What are RPF Files?

RPF (Rage Package File) archives are container files used by GTA V to store game assets. They contain various game files including models, textures, and scripts.

Important RPF Files

  • update.rpf - Contains most recent game updates
  • x64e.rpf - Vehicle-related files
  • x64w.rpf - Weapon-related files
  • common.rpf - Shared game assets

Prerequisites

  • OpenIV with ASI Loader
  • "mods" folder in GTA V directory
  • OpenIV.asi installed
  • Backup of original RPF files

Safe Editing Process

  1. Enable Edit Mode

    Click the Edit Mode button (padlock icon) in OpenIV

  2. Locate RPF File

    Navigate to the RPF file you want to modify

  3. Create Working Copy

    Use "Copy to mods folder" for any files you plan to edit

  4. Edit Files

    Make changes only to files in your mods folder
